Richland Creek Wilderness in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas
Richland Creek Wilderness area in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas has over 11,000 acres of our states most beauitful wilderness. Richland Creek has some beautiful house size boulders covered in lichen that gives the boulders more texture and color. These large boulders ctreate an excellent whitewater stream of a class III with a few class IV rapids. The creek has several waterfalls including Richland falls and many creeks feeding Richland Creek that have some beautiful waterfalls. I have been kayaking on Richland Creek for years and this is definitely my favorite run in the state of Arkansas. The USGS keeps water leves of Richland Creek at this link. This image was daken right at dusk, the creamy look of the water in this image is decieving. This is actually quite a difficult whitewater rapid and the boulders are much bigger than they appear. Comments or critique is always appreciated and thanks for looking.

Hi, I saw your comment on blogcatalog and thought I’d drop round. This is a great site you have here, with some wonderful photography. I really love the creamy water in this photo - I’ve always wanted to get a photo like this of the water but never got around to it.
Cheers,
David

Stunning, mythical photo of Richland Creek. I love the colors, textures, and imagery this pic provokes in my mind -of solid boulders amongst the moving waters while the landscape brightens the sky.
Gorgeous!!!

To answer David’s question: Gale, I’m assuming you used a slow shutter like 1/30 or less. I’m a video guy and just dabble in stills. But slowing the shutter on stills creates that effect i.e. headlight streams at night, etc. Right, Gale? Great pic.

This image was taken right a dusk, so it was pretty dark the exposure was around 30 seconds. Longer than I would have chosen with more light.
