Reflection of Longs Peak at sunrise in Bear Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

This is a landscape photography image of a reflection of Longs Peak at sunrise caught at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado. I was traveling home from my trip to Grand Teton and spent the night in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was in early October 2007 and I was very disappointed not to see any snow on Beautiful Longs Peak. Longs Peak rises to 14,259 feet, one of Colorado 14er’s and is the highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park. Bear Lake is one of Rocky Mountain National Parks most popular attrations. To reach Bear Lake simply take Bear Lake Road to the beautiful lake. Thanks for looking and any comments or votes are greatly appreciated.

Wow! This is an absolutely stunning shot. This is the kind of scene outdoor photographers live for and you have done an outstanding job with it, Gale.

    Hi Gail,

Beautiful shot! Is this an HDR image?

Tom this is a HDR image. I blended it to look like what my eye could see at the time.

Okay, I feel sort of out of my deapth because I don’t know what HDR image means, but it is a very impressive picture. I look at it and I want to visit this place, which is the most important thing for me about nature photography. It has to have some mystery and magic.

  9. Gale Rainwater 07. Jan, 2008 at 4:15 am #

Juliette, HDR stands for high dynamic range. It’s done by taking several pictures on a tripod at different exposures and then you blend them together.

Albert, This image is more about being in the right place at the right time. The more you do landscape the more you learn how to make your odds better for a nice image.
