Mather Point, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Mather Point at Grand Canyon National Park copyright Gale Rainwater

Hello everyone I have been away out of town and returned recently from a trip to Vegas and spent some time in Grand Canyon National Park doing some panorama landscape photography. The south rim of Grand Canyon National Park is around 7000 ft elevation and gets pretty cold at night. This is from a nice cloudy morning at Mather Point. If you have ever been to the park this is the first and most popular look out on the south rim.

Please click this link for a wider panorama view.

I hope to share more images as I have some time to process them. Any comments or critique is appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

Gale

  1. Wow, my fear of heights kicks in when I look at this, it’s so realistic looking. You must not be afraid of heights by the look of this photograph. I was wondering where you were and was a little concerned about you. This photograph makes up for that and then some.

  2. Fantastic … I’d like to visit the “Grand Canyon” one day in my life :)

  3. Hi Irene, thanks so much for your concern. It is so nice to know I was missed!! Thank you. I do have a natural fear of hieghts but not what I would call a bad phobia. All the lookouts in the park have a guard rail and I have no problem standing by them. There was alot of snow and ice on the steps and bluffs add carrying my camera and tripod so I was being vey careful. Thanks for all your comments and your concern I appreciate it.
    Best regards

  4. Hi….glad you’re here again :)

    Ow…I stumbled this.. :P

  5. Welcome back!!! As always— this is a another beautiful photograph. I bet this image would look great rendered as black and white. The snow and the mountains with the cloud cover would be dramatic and give it a whole different perspective. I look forward to seeing more of your work. :)

  6. This is phenomenal. I’m really enjoying your photos. They’re taking me back to my journey’s out west and I’m feeling the need to wander out there again. The panorama is stunning!! I’ve listed you on my blogspot to get others to check you out. I love your work. Keep it up.

  7. Your pictures are amazing. I have always wanted to see the grand canyon. I recently started taking some shots of nature in Iowa. I would love it if you could stop by and give me some suggestions. Unfortunately we do not have these types of magnificent landforms in Iowa so I must look for more refined beauty. Stop by if you get a chance.

  8. Hi Gale, This is breathtaking!! WOW! Thank you for sharing this!!
